Headscratcher Part 3 - Guess the problem
87 944 NA, 97000 miles.
Owner replaced headgasket, retensioned belts, etc. Head machined to spec. Water pump replaced as well Leaking oil at the headgasket., small leak at waterpump gasket Inspection indicates gasket was installed properly, no sealants were used, no physical failure of the gasket or head No obvious defects in waterpump, OE gasket installed, no physical damage. Leaking oil at head gasket
Possible worn out piston rings.
Leaking water pump, perhaps partly blocked cooling system, causing excess pressure, allowing pump to leak. Just a guess. SmileWavy |
cracked block?

I would guess a cracked block also. Where is the oil leaking out at the headgasket (which cylinder)?

Improper torque applied, improper torque on water pump, didn't bleed air out of coolant, hotspot caused head warpage. didn't hook up fans, overheating caused gasket failure. overtorque-ing on all the above. Wrong type coolant, phos. ate away the goodies. wrong sized belt on water pump pulley caused overheating. cracked stuff/housing/block/head. didn't use new nuts and washers with head.

heheh Todwic got it on his "shotgun" approach.
Overtorqued head and waterpump bolts. When overtorqued, the studs will "pull" put of the case slightly, raising a small "mound" of metal around the stud, preventing a good seal. AFJuvat |
