late strut body attachment to early strut threaded cap - instructions?

any instructions out there on taking the threaded cap off of an early model year 944 strut and attaching it to a late model year strut?

Is it so you can fit the early strut insert into a later strut? If that’s the case, it won’t work. The early struts are a smaller diameter so the early insert wil not fit tight into a late strut. You either have to use the Koni insert designed to be secured at the bottom instead of using any cap or you can weld on a different threaded cap designed for use with Bilstein inserts.

that's my dream - but - I can't find a guaranteed-to-fit sleeve - I had another thread going where some of these come up... but frankly, I'm lost.

A company in Germany offered the sleeves and I'm sure I watched a yt video of them being fitted some years ago but quite honestly I'm out of the loop about whats still available now as I've moved onto MC coilovers on all but one of my cars.

What don't you like about the Koni inserts for the late cars?

I suppose if you are set on running Bilsteins there is always the Bilstein Escort Cup which is available in both street and track valving.

what's the diameter of a late 944 shock tube "housing"? 50mm?

bet you could weld a 2" nominal pipe nipple and cap with a hole in it to retain the insert...

Garage
Use a pipe or strap wrench to take off.
