I covered the engine bay with plastic sheeting and then used Pro-Power Goo Gone and several plastic scrapers to remove the adhesive. Using a heat gun speeds up the process. Worked well but it did take some time. I was able to get all the adhesive off and then wiped the hood down with acetone before I applied the new insulation.

Not hard - cover the engine area and follow Geoman's advise. Take your time - it is worth the effort.

3M makes an auto adhesive remover. It isn't bad.

thanks for tips - tried the goof off stuff and plastic scrapers -got most of it anyway - hope it's enough. what a b**** . How about this: drained old coolant and the radiator plastic drain screw head breaks off when tightening it back in - just age/heat fatigue I think - did not torque it that hard - somethin' to keep in mind if you ever go there,,,part available from our host. fwiw

Glad you got most of the adhesive off. Yup, it's a pain alright. But the new stuff will really look great. FWIW, if you install the insulation that has a self-adhesive backing, make really, really certain that you position it correctly because once that adhesive touches the metal, it's there for good! I peeled of the backing on only a small portion first and stuck that part down, then peeled the remaining backing as I pushed the material in place. Then check the position of the power steering reservoir. Had to lower mine down a bit so it wouldn't press against the insulation.
