Speedometer and odometer not working
I have a 944s2 and the speedometer and odometer is not working. I replace the plastic gear and still doesn’t work. Any suggestion on what the issue might be?

If both the speedo and the odo are not working, it is most likely the sender on the transmission, or the wiring between the sender and the gauge.

Mine did that at one point. I got a replacement cluster off of ebay and replaced the speedometer. So, it was something in the actual speedometer that broke, not the gear. The gear did eventually break, just replaced it this weekend.

Make sure your speed-sender in transmission is working as well as wiring in between.
Need to actually TEST parts and confirm they are bad before replacing. Otherwise you're gonna be replacing A LOT of perfectly working parts with brand new perfectly working parts and nothing changes. |
Also your year might be important, I know the 1991 S2 has some commonality with the 968, which uses the ABS system to generate the speed signal. I do not know if the S2 does this but I think it does have a different ABS brain.
