Ongoing strut removal...help please! PICS!

Hi,

I am in the process of removing my front struts. I am having trouble getting the top (eccentric) bolt out, the arrow in the photo is pointing at the bolt.

I got the nut off, but there is an eccentric washer that turns with the bolt, so it just keeps adjusting camber and never screws out.

Videos I watch show it being drifted out with a punch but it doesn't seem to want to move and I am hesitant to really beat on it.

Are these Koni adjustable shocks different maybe?

Thanks in advance,

GHEN

That washer has to come off and then you can pound it out. Judging by how rusty that is down there though, it may take quite a bit of force/heat/penetrant/all-of-the-above to get it out.

Put the nut back on a few threads and try a big "C" clamp using a socket on the other side as the receptacle. When you get to the nut remove it and use a properly sized 1/4 drive socket to press the bolt thru. Failing that polite attempt, then "Armstrong method" with a lead or brass hammer.

Okay, just reread that the bolt is turning so that means the washer is rusted onto the bolt, not the bolt stuck in place. Use a punch/screwdriver/chisel and bang on the washer to free up the bond between it and the bolt and then you can get the bolt out. Either way, that washer is not supposed to be attached to the bolt.

^^ The above and it may help to have a jack just barely push up on the control arm a bit as that will take some pressure off the bolt and washer that you are trying to work on which may make it a hair easier to free everything up.

SUCCESS!

Some PB Blaster and a punch to the washer took it right off. The driver's side is yet to do...caliper bolts on that side are really frozen in there.

Thanks for all of the help everyone!
