944 buying/problems
I’ve been out of the Porsche world for awhile, and want back in! I’ve been looking for a 944 or 951 to commute in, when the weather permits. Other than the timing belt, steering rack and tired suspension...what are some common costly issues I should be looking for? Also, does $7-$9K seem accurate for a clean NA car, and $10-$14 for a turbo?
Thanks, Ryan

$7 to 9K for an NA car would be good if the car has up to date maintenance records that are time/date proper for the car. Also, no cracks in dash, good glass, Tires with recent date codes (less than 5 years) and a/c working. Otherwise 4 to 5K and you'll have to do belts, tires, brakes, etc. which could amount to the difference.
Turbo: Same stuff and check for smoke from exhaust (possible turbo seals), engine temps, and boost pressures. Good luck with the hunt.

3 944's, 2 Boxsters and one Caman S, and now one 951 turbo. Really miss the Cayman. Some people try to turn back their "odometers." Not me. I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved. |
