Transaxle coupler issue

It seems the grooves are too far apart or too close, nevertheless, I can get one bolt threaded but the other is missing the groove properly. So to refrain from stripping the bolt I thought to ask if this is common? I would think with the gearbox and engine mounted the TT has to be in the same location it was before removal.
Hope this makes some sense!

What am I missing here?

have you tried leveraging the front coupler forward at the inspection port? the nose might have a tighter tolerance with the pilot bearing than an alignment tool. you might have a helper push the clutch pedal while doing so.

Turn both shafts a little and try to see marks where the bolts slipped through. I had the same issue a while back and it took some time to locate the flattest spots.

Also, just a friendly reminder: Those coupler bolts are microencapsulated so they're one time use. New bolts should be installed each time.

I had to loosen the bell housing(gearbox) bolts just for a little wiggle room to get the coupler on both shafts so I am thinking I may need to do this to get the shafts inline by moving the gearbox. I am only off by a few mm's.

Yeah they say to use new bolts but since all they do is pinch the coupler in place I am not too concerned and I have seen guys reuse the originals. If they were a buck or 2 each ...no issue, but at 10 each....nope! LOL Beside a little medium loctite should suffice keeping them in..thnx!

Mine went on well but I learned somewhere doing as you did (leaving the trans bolts loose) was the way to smoothly mate the shafts. I also used loctite on mine and of course replaced the wire lock on that other critical bolt there - shifter connection?

Yeah safety wire on the 13mm bolt to connect the shift lever shaft is crucial. Hate to have it back out and lose it out on the road, if it does come out at least you still have it tethered!

Yeah my thought is the same just back a few bolts out so all is loose then mate it all up, get the bolts started then torque away.
