Did I make a mistake by getting KYB struts?
Both my front strut assemblies are starting to thump upon making hard turns. I assume either the mounts are gone or the strut is seizing inside the assembly. Anyhow I wanted to replace the front struts as they have never been done and feel like absolute rocks on the road. I ordered a set of KYB GR-2 / Excel-G struts from a local parts supplier. I have not installed them yet so they can still be returned. Upon researching the KYB's they seem to be disliked in our Porsche community. I'm just looking to get a solid comfortable ride, no track use or anything of that nature. Car is an 88 924s. What are your opinions on these struts?

I've had no issues with KYB. Lasted 10-yrs on my '86 NA. Very similar to factory Boge/Sachs struts.
Noises are probably the upper mounts. Be sure to replace those too. |
I have KYBs on an 88 924S and I like them! I really only use my car to take me to and from the autocross events I then drive it in, though.
I just wanted to mention that I found that there was a significant cost differential going OEM on the upper mounts versus buying upgraded, high quality camber plates from Racers Edge- I know you're not tracking your car, but it seemed like a no-brainer to me to go with Racers Edge, and it did correct the thumping problem of which I also experienced. |

Awesome to hear you had luck with the KYB's I was worried. I bought aftermarket mounts today from 944Online, there supposedly 3/4" thicker than the stock mounts but are a direct fit. Had a good review so I went for them. I normally would try for OEM but man these mounts are expensive! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
