Help something’s wrong
Just got home and parked my 87 after driving about 60 miles. Filled up with gas just before leaving earlier. Went back out to repark the car. Car started fine as it always does idled for about 20 seconds then went into rough idle and shut off. Tried to restart idle was really rough for about five seconds then just dies. If I apply throttle it stalls right out. It’s late and I’ll start to troubleshoot tomorrow any ideas. Car has approximately 235k but always maintained and runs fantastic (until now). Thanks

Was the car left on an incline? If so, roll it to a flat area and see if it works better. You may have to run it a little to clear up the fuel line. I'm suspecting water in the gas from your latest gas-up. Outside of that my next thought would be the DME relay. If you don't carry a spare, I would recommend it. Get a Stribel or OEM....avoid the URO brand. They're crap right out of the box. Good luck with this.

Could also be speed/reference sensor connectors.
Look for the holy trinity: Compression, Fuel, Spark |

We'd be happy to offer a warranty replacement to anyone who had one of our old DME relays (p/n 993 615 227 01) fail in the past, just contact us with your purchase details at "sales at uro parts dot com" (remove spaces). http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1545434553.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1545434567.jpg |
Fixed!!!
Ok so I started by changing the dme and it didn’t change. Then went to the maf ,still nothing. Then noticed a weird clicking sound coming from the idle air control sensor under the intake manifold. The wire harness had been worn by rubbing against the intake manifold and was arcing out. Insulated the wire and bingo 4 hours of driving and shutting the car off and on various times no issues. |
