Is there any way to determine what odometer gear I have without disassembling the gau
 

I've got a 1988 924s and the odometer has never fully worked since I got the car. The trip odometer is stuck but milage still counts. The next occurring issue is with the speedometer. The needle always shows 20km faster than what I'm actually doing and as of recently it's developed a buzzing sound over 100km. I have purchased the speedometer cable but I'm not sure what gear I need. Preferably I would love to not have to remove this gauge a second time but it seems those chances are slim. Has anyone here figured out a way to determine the # of gear teeth you have in your odometer without disassembling it?

If you take the speedometer out and disassemble it to count the teeth, don't reinstall it, just use the GPS on your phone to show the speed until you get the gear. (I just noticed that you sent the above post using your iPad, which probably has a GPS, too.)

At least, being a lazy person, that is what my approach would be.

According to the Pelican Parts Porsche Odometer Gear Reference Table and assuming you have a US model, that is, mph and not kph, you apparently need an M17 or ODO-POR-M17 gear.

Thanks for bringing this table to my attention. I've got a kph unfortunately here in Canada. Would this be the same as the euro spec odometer as they are both in kph?
