If the metal bead on the hatch (what he is calling the metal ring) is not lining up with the rubber seal, try adjusting the hatch position by moving the hinge position slightly.

Also check that the hatch pins are properly adjusted, if they are not either the hatch will not lock (adjusted to high to catch the locking mechanism), or the hatch will lock but not tight (the locking pins are adjusted to low, holding the hatch slightly open). It's an easy check, close and lock the hatch, lift up on the spoiler, if the hatch moves the pins are not properly adjusted or the seats are worn and broken (very common since Porsche used plastic for the seats), if the seats are broken, the hatch will not seal tightly.

Often times this can be heard as a muted "hump" noise coming from the rear cargo area when you go over a rough road or bump. This is caused by the pins moving up and down in the gap in the locking mechanism from the broken/missing seats.
