New to me 1988 944 base coupe... questions / comments
Last week I picked up this 1988 944 base coupe low 80's miles. The last time I owned a 944 was for a short while in the 1980's.
Really nice clean straight car. Came with EVERY service record from new!! Belts done in 2016 less than 10k miles ago. Couple minor items..... Dash lights are pretty weak... shifter boot / cover worn.... needs and alignment.... maybe tie rods they feel a little sloppy. Idle stumbles a bit when cold. Paint is a little oxidized so i'll need to spend some time with the polishing wheel. 1 big question..... didn't the 88 come with an air bag steering wheel?? Other than that the car runs and drives really well and I am very happy with it. Some sort of aftermarket rockers, 17 inch boxster wheels, and looks like a euro front bumper. I have the original front bumper too. NO dash cracks!!! No seat splits !!!!! Really nice car.... Thoughts on how to tackle the dash lights? Is there a tech article on it here? Same with the shift boot? Thanks in advance ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Only944.com makes a led dash light kit for it if I remember correctly.

Not a Euro bumper - Rubber removed and it looks like the bumper shocks have been collapsed. It's a modified look that is quite common.
Shifter boot - the are leather kits available of you could buy an OEM shifter boot from Porsche - it depends on how much you want to spend. Clarks Garage can help you with the dash disassembly. Not sure about an LEd conversion although if you do a search on the forum, i'm sure you will find it. nice looking car - congrats!

Haven't installed mines yet but it looked like a pretty good plug and play solution when I brought them. Will let you know how well they work soon.
