In the process of pulling my clutch slave cylinder for a rebuild and I run into this
![]() The housing looks fine from the exterior, but under the boot, a good chunk of the shaft has crumbled Any ideas what might have caused this? |

So, hydraulic fluid is super hygroscopic which means it loves to absorb water. Left unchanged, clutch and brake fluid (same thing) will absorb water and rust the metal they live in. That's why its a best practice to bleed clutch and brake fluid annually, but every other year is fine. Good catch on your part.
