Help! 924 Timeing Belt Install....
Hi. I have an 1981 Porsche 924 Weisach edition I'm working on... I put a new head on the car and have some questions about setting the timeing. I'm new to engine work, but basicaly I've got the new head on and everything is in place, only I'm not 100% sure how to set the timing belt, crank pulley and distributer. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated...
What are the steps to doing this??? I read in the Haynes manual to set the cam pulley to the mark on the valve cover.. I did that... then set the "notch" on the v-belt pulley align with the marker on the oil pump.. the problem is that I can't find any notch on the v-belt pulley...? Is it a notch? or is it a paint mark? I looked very closely for two hours trying to find the "notch" there is none to be found on this car that I could see... can I set the timing by the location of the flywheel? I can see on the flywheel two lines and a #10 above each one... in between the lines is a white paint spot between the flywheel teeth. Is that TDC? Basicaly I'm confused and have no one around that can help me with this. Any help would be greatly appreciated... ![]() Thanks, Tim in Indiana |

most of the times on porsches the white mark is TDC, im not on the 924 though, as ive never dug into one of those before though, but i know on the 944 the timing mark on the flywheel is the biggest PITA to find..good luck
