Yes your 1986 is an 2.5 8v.

Want to do that throttle cam upgrade and part I looked at is apparently limited to 8 valve.

The throttle cam "upgrade" will work with your engine , shop around they're available from different vendors for different prices !
Rennline sells them too now, although probably the most expensive ...

Just FYI the round Throttle Cam (usually red) can be used on both 8 and 16v cars...

dcarlson...Showing you a throttle respond cam I install on my ex 83 944,that was years back.At that time you could only get it in brush alluminium.While it doesn't give you more horse power it does have quiker respond I love it.Also if you take a closer look a did install an Accel electronic coil which will give you more sparks.

just a follow-up - did the throttle cam install - it is nice upgrade - just so much better pedal response - glad my clutch has only a couple thousand on it! Did that air box w/K&N give you any noticeable boost?

Just modify your stock one for free, it will function he same ( cut off arm and relocate the cable hole ( by drilling a new hole and cut a slot as the factory one) ...real simple and free.
