Aging Auto Tensioner Accuracy?
In setting the correct t-belt tension on my ‘87na (using Bruce Arnn’s lates tool) - I found that I needed to add a significant amount of force beyond what the spring tension alone would have applied.

It does make sense that after 32 years the spring would have become somewhat weaker than when new…but it also seems that the “correct” tension as per the Arnnworxx tool is just a tad tight.

Would like to hear other’s comments…thanks!

Not saying it’s your issue but be aware that tools also go out of calibration and require checking and recalibrating. I get all my torque wrenches and other tools done every six months by the Snap-On guy.

+1 When I used to have the spring style tensioner just letting it snap back was also not enough for a proper setting; esp on a brand new belt. I definitely recall others complaining about the same thing over the years as well.
