Question engine unblance at 2800-3200 rpm

I have 84 944 with an engine that seems unbalanced between 2800-3200 rpms. This accures at any speed or load. I can be on the straight away, going up hill, coming down hill, even if I'm stopped and rev it up, etc. It's real noticeable when I accelerate in this rpm range. If I accelerate past 3200 rpms or decrease below 2800 rpms it smooths out. I checked the balance shaft timing several times and the timing marks are dead on. What could cause such a problem? Since my balance shafts are correct, I have new turbo style motor mounts, just done a tune up and I have an automatic instead of a standard transmission. Could the torque tube bearings cause this problem? Any help out there?
