Draining The Fuel Tank on a 968

I found a 10 year old thread about this, but it was for an '85 944, and there were a lot of conflicting opinions. Since I can't get a siphon hose down the throat, what is the best way, and where do I attack it from? Thanx.

If the 968 is anything like the 944 then simply undo the hose at the bottom of the tank going to the fuel pump. Best remove the right rear wheel. Sorry I meant removed the pump not the hose that way you have some control over the shower you will receive.

^^^^^ OK, remove the fuel pump? Or the hose from the tank to the fuel pump, at the fuel pump? The latter would seem to make more sense. But what the he!! do I know. Answer...….not a lot!

If the fuel pump works, apply voltage to fuse #34 to power the pump, and push the fuel out the fuel rail (attach a hose at the fitting) into a container.

If the fuel pump does not work, remove the fuel level sender under the luggage compartment cover and use a long plastic hose to siphon the fuel into a container.

once drained, there is a half gallon below the strainer. the line from the strainer to the pump works fine as a drain. the 13mm bolt head is up in the fender for the cover.

pick up a new seal and gently work the strainer. I think its a silly 18mm. be careful with the threaded insert into the plastic. roll up a lint free towel length wise and shove one end in the tank and the other end into a catch pan. it will siphon itself out overnight.

Fuel is out. I used the fuel pump and a jumper at the fuse block. Thanx for all the help, guys. I love this forum.
