I've got one.
Its about 1/64th scale though. Bright blue too I drive it around when I get bored with the 944 (never hehe).
I need to buy a full size one too, if you find one in my price range let me know

They can be registered for show car use, so you can drive about 1200 miles a year...

Being in the military until not too long ago, I have to wonder how you plan on buying one.

(I don't know if they are still 100% illegal here in the states, I think there are certain exceptions for collectors, but it will never be street legal)

993TT out performs the 959 all around, around $55K or so for a good 97.

Last 959 I saw for sale was going for $375K, they were made in 1987 and 1988 only - total of 208 cars made.

Since they are not supported by PCNA, any and all parts requests must go through Germany - the wheels are $1600 each - if you can get them to send them to you.

Nah, you can bring them in no problem now as collector/show cars, and are limited to very little mileage a year, but they do cost a fortune.

Porsche Crest

here's one in France with only 18,000 km... they don't list a price... my guess is half a million euros.

959s have been going for about $200k at European auctions. Importation and federalisation is another $40k - $90k.
PCNA do not offer any help on technical or parts resoruces but there are a couple of shops that have the knowledge and equipment to support using a 959. The problem is that the car is so complicated you would need to live close to one of those shops or accept that you couldn't use the car while it's in for service. I think that a 993TT or 996TT with the X50 option is a better deal as you would also be able to buy a couple of other Porsche collector cars (73 RS anyone?)for the same price as one 959.

Possable Typo on the model number? 944Freak you thinking of dropping $200-300K on a car? You can get a nice house for that kind of dough!

200-300K will not buy much of a house in Hawaii. There are several "kit" 959s here. I assume that they are kits since they could hang with my pos 924s in the twisties.

Yeah I know Hawaii is expensive (going to vacation there August, Lost count of how many time I have visited) But what would $250K get you in North Carolina?

I'm just saying (I don't know him personally) 944Freak has not presented himself as a rich man, and that is some major coin to drop on a car.

I think I'll get one like Ilikemy944's. I wish I could have one of those cars but don't we all. Actually so far it looks like I'm gonna get the 86 951. I just wanted to see what you guys would say. AJJUVAT you can get a 97 993TT for $55000? Thats awesome I thought they would be a lot more. Anyway If I ever get one I'll owe you all a ride.

"They are still illegal in the US so you won't be able to bring it home."

Under 2001's "show and display" law, 959s are now completely street legal for the US (I saw one at the Rennsport reunion, summer, 2001). The only rule (i think) is that the car cannot acrue any more than 2000 miles per year.

Cars bought in under the "Show and Display" still have to be federalised to reach the EPA standard for the model year of the vehicle. They do not have to comply with the DOT crash test standards.

The 959 was built in accordance with EPA standards; the only reason it was not allowed in the US in the first place was because Porsche refused to submit one to DOT crash tests - the government insisted they were stand-alone models, whereas Porsche insisted they were 911 derivitives (and therefore didn't have to be crash-tested). Porsche's solution was simple: you won't allow 959s? You won't get 959s. Since Porsche only planned on building just over 200 959s, they figured losing out on the considerable US market would be no big deal. I guess they were right.

CJ, There were only about 20 USA "sport" models, most of the ones now here are European spec and didn't have catalysts and air pumps.

The only one i've ever seen, and I know it was real. Ask Blackfoot, was Gate's 959. He came up right behind in Medina while i was in my 911. Although it wasn't Gates driving it. That car was very very beautiful.
Kyle.
