S2 Total rebuild

Hi all,

I live near Buckingham, I purchased a basket-case 944 S2 a few years ago, then found it had chronic problems in every area, from engine (cam cogs worn away) to body (multiple rust problems), to suspension (some actually rusted away), one wheel had a broken nut, so had to be drilled out, you get the idea...

The suspension, brake system and bodywork is nearly complete, so my next task is service / repair the engine and gearbox and then get the MOT and get her on the road. After that, all the details like interior, etc. can be done.

I would really appreciate some advice on the specific outstanding tasks?

1. Does anyone know where I can get a set of cams, either new or good condition?
2. It appears possible to swap Boxster seats right over, is this correct??
3. It really annoys me to pay 100 for a bonnet badge, they look identical and seem to have an identical fitting system, so does anyone know why a good used 986 or 993 or 964 badge won't fit?

Thanks for a very useful forum, and appreciate any advice!!

LoJo

does copper pass the MOT? it will fatigue and crack over time especially if is unsupported.

Cohline brake lines are quite reasonable at ten to twenty bucks for the double bubble sections.

some US dismantlers should be able to hook you up with a set of bump sticks or you might be able to have yours repaired.

The last brake pipes lasted for 30 years, and only needed to be replaced due to chronic corrosion, probably caused by road salt, so they have been replaced with the same...

Anyone know of a source of Cams for 944 S2??

Thanks -

Does anyone know where I can get some standard or very mild cams? Or have a way to repair the cogs on the cams??

944 Online I believe has a service to replace the teeth.

Call Ian up and ask him.

Copper/nickel (cunnifer) or copper/nickel/steel is more common.
