porsche oem parts?

usually with having problems, ordering parts from u.s, and then getting ripped off at customs canada, i decided to enquire from a local{michigan} dealer, about price/availability of a timing belt, balance belt, and oil filter. well, how about $57us/timing, $167 balance, and $16 for the oil filter! jeez, i would hope that they are coated with titanium, for those prices. makes me wonder if the belts sold by pelican/vertex etc, are cheaper, less well made?
{inferior}.
anyhoo, its about that time. done 33000miles, since the belts were last changed, and i feel quite comfortable with adjusting them, so now its time to change them!
question? how many people buy the belts from pelican, and what do you think about quality/longevity?
any input greatly appreciated!
bob.

Last time I checked with local P dealer here in US, he wanted $133 for the balance shaft belt and that included a 10% discount because I belong to PCA. They used to cost about $45 at the dealer.

Don't think quality is any better. I think it is simply price gouging. Ferrari has been doing the same thing except more flagrant for years.

i appreciate your reply! thanks. could not help thinking that the "shop" belt would be better quality! i'll now go ahead and purchase the belts, but not from the dealer!!
regards, bob.

i have ordered from pelican and the belts are no different than the ones from the dealer........

Also... when u order ask them to ship USPS .....it will avoid brokerage fees.

Either way u will stay pay gst.

On occassion they may miss the duty..... cross your fingers on that one.

The prices between the 2 countries don't make sense...
Priced out the following...

Main bearing set (dealer) Canada 760 Canadian ~500 U.S.
You can buy in the states for about 80 U.S

Where as something things are cheaper..... uhmm armrest hinge about $14 U.S from canadian dealer......

No rhyme or reason I have found... so I price out both sides of the border.....
