Belt squeek

So my ac compressor/ alternator belt squeaks at lower gears and when my compressor is on but is silent after a bit of driving and in higher gears. Any clues on any fixes?

Use the factory belt tension tool and the instructions in the factory workshop manual to set the tension properly. The appropriate tension is much, much higher than you might feel comfortable with.

Yes. Be sure to follow the proper sequence. The pivot needs to be loosened first and tightened last. The turn buckle eye fasteners should be snug but not tight as you fiddle with the left hand and right hand ends. Plenty of threads on failed turn buckles and snapped compressor ears.

Ill fitting belts or aged/hard belts can cause you to overtighten and put too much torque on the pulley bearings. Start with a fresh belt since you're messing with it and laying under there anyhow. Belt is probably what - $15? Then you'll have peace of mind for the future and can note the date/miles of a fresh belt. If it squeaks with that, then you'll need to look more closely and get advice. I mention all this so you don't overtighten to stop the squealing as that will be expensive in a few thousand miles.

Well I have a sort of new belt except for some wear on the sides from who knows what and I thought it was about the right tension but I'll try to make it tighter if my ac compressor will even agree with me and go further

you might check your pulley alignment to be sure they are in the same plane if the edges are wearing.

Yeah that's what I've been thinking and I'm not sure if the ac compressor is supposed to be like flat with the front of the mount or back

So I think the belt is rubbing against the hose that is just above the alternator and I tried a couple zip ties to hold it up but does anyone else have an idea for how to keep it up
