Oil Pump problems

Every time I start my car the oil pressure is at zero for about 1 minute sometimes it is even at zero for 2-3 minutes. Then it just all of a sudden goes up to its normal 4 bar. People tell me alot of different things regarding the problem, but I still don't know what is exactly wrong with it. Any suggestions

What kind of car, what year? It is not possible to run the car at 0 oil pressure, it would hardly turnover. Sounds like your oil pressure sending unit, or something electrical. My 84 944 shows about 1 bar as soon as you hit the starter, before it even starts. Are you talking about the gauge or the pressure light?

Actually, you can run an engine without oil pressure. It won't last long though. I doubt if it is an oiling problem. If it ran for 2-3 minutes without oil pressure, you would notice something's wrong. It would knock or seize up. I agree that it's probably the sender or the gauge. But when in doubt, have it checked out. Paying a mechanic to check it out is a lot cheaper than paying him to build an engine.
