One Ton Lift OK for Engine Drop?

A few years back I dropped the engine on my '85.5NA with a borrowed 2-ton engine hoist.

Now I'm planning to drop the engine on my '87NA, and am looking at a new (Pittsburgh) 1-ton hoist from HF, thinking that this is likely hefty enough for my needs.

Yes, I know that going sturdier is better - but this is likely my last engine drop, so getting by with something that will be "good enough" is fine, so long as the crane's extension is adequate, and that the unit's 500lb. rating at maximum extension (which looks like what I'll need to use going in from the front) is also adequate and safe.

Another thought...I could go in from the side (I'd be removing the car's hood in any case) and possibly use a shorter extension, with a higher load rating.

Comments?

One ton is certainly adequate. I would pull entire drivetrain (engine, torque tube and transaxle) with a one ton, no problem...

Make sure all the bolts are tight on the hoist before lifting anything.

Engine weighs about 350-lbs. I use block & tackle rope hoist.

Got a good deal on the two-ton - and could not see any downsides to this. A little heavier, but much longer reach and capacity.
