Angry Need Advice - My Helmet Hits The Roll Cage

My rally roll cage was built by one of the best FIA-spec cage builders in the business. However, after installing my seat, in the exact same position the builder used, my helmet hits the roll bar padding. And it doesn't lightly hit, it interferes; there is at least a 1/2" overlap. I have no idea what to do! Any suggestions you have are very much welcome! Please help!

Hmm.. while the work was ongoing, were you test fitting with your helmet on? It looks like there could have been room before the roll bar padding was installed. Is there any room to lower the seat (maybe bolt/weld to the floor vs on rails)? Remove any seat bottom padding? Look for a thinner seat that still meets rule requirements?

What does the builder recommend? Clearly "one of the best FIA-spec cage builders" has seen this before and might have some work around?

Changing the cage, lowering the seat, or changing the seat look like your only options. Choose one. To avoid contact in rally I would want at least 2" clearance.

The cage builder is 10-hours away from me. But i am pretty sure he stuck a helmet on me and put me in the car, when i dropped it off. I sent him an email at the same time i posted this. He is used to having richey-rich customers, so i'm 50% gonna say his solution will be expensive and beyond my budget.

The seat is 1/4" to 1/2" off the floor. I'm going to try and add holes to the seat mounts tonight to drop it down.

The seat is an OMP First-R, it is the thinnest/nicest seat i could afford. I removed all the optional padding as soon as they arrived, lol, that **** was like 6" thick!

Thanks for your help!

i tried that, my arms are too short. i wouldn't be able to reach the hydro, the dashboard switches, or throw 5th gear, lol.

also, the harness bar on the cage is too high, it barely meets belt angle specs with me sitting upright.

any way i look at it... seems like some expensive cutting and welding is in my future...

:'(

I would change the OMP-R for a Kirkey. These aluminum and SFI approved seats will put you right on the floor. They can be had for less than $200 at Summit, Jegs, etc.

unfortunately, my seat is mounted to the floor. it is only hovering about 1/4" off the floor.

luckily, i do have a NRG quick disconnect short hub installed.

With longer/taller steering wheel hub, you can tilt seat back more.

Is that bottom of seat itself? Or rails that's 1/4" off floor?

Please post photos of existing mounting. And cage. Thx

i very much appreciate everyone's help, though.
