Hissing Noise In Rear - Just Some Opinion
My 944T has always had a hissing noise in the rear. As it is a track car with all the sound deadening material out in the back, I always assumed it came from the tranny. Last weekend I finished the job of replacing the slightly bent wheel hub and bearing on the left rear. Presto, the hissing disappeared. By the way, the bearing job is not bad if you follow the directions in the manual and remove the trailing arm and heat it. Aluminum expands at a rate twice that of steel when heated. Bearing comes out easily when hot. Ditto for installing new bearing. Putting the hub in the freezer for a couple of hours helps when installing it.
