Am I nuts???

I'm thinking about buying another car. I'm looking at an 85 toyota corolla AE86 (the RWD ones) and I might buy it. This means that I would not fix my 944 for a couple monthes, and then I would probably sell it. I've told a few of my friends this and they all think I'm nuts. What do you guys think?? Do I go with the AE86 or the dieing 944?

Yes. but I'm nuts too, so, I guess I can't really tell.....nevermind......buy a yugo instead..

Gearhead, just curious but what would inspire you to buy an 18 year old corolla? I would guess its pretty cheap and could provide temporary transportation while you fix the 944, but would you really want to keep the Toyota and sell the Porsche. I think I would rather sell the Corolla and keep the 944 after its repaired. Just my opinion though.

NUTSNUTSNUTSNUTS.... :)

I have to say that if I am still willing to takle all the issues my car is having. More of a confidence builder for me.... :D

granted, AE86's are good cars for what they are and do but once your 944 is running straight again, as soon as you're behind the wheel you'll not want to go back. Its bound to happen

Just LOOK at a corolla! Especially an old one! They are so damn ugly and i bet they do not handle for ****! Dont bail out on the 944, if you do dont get an old corolla, at least get something sportier like an older 300zx, MR2, RX7 etc. I have seen these though in magazines all beefed up with slicks on the back and they are running 10's! That is a true sleeper, but it will only be fun in a straight line and that isnt too fun after a while....keep the 944

yes you are nuts.
80's cars are trouble for the most part in my experience. unless maybe its a porsche :)

NUTS!

AE86s are nice cars. Very undervalued. Perfect for your driving style (drifting!). They can handle pretty well also. Personally, I'd keep the 944 though.

NUTS! 944 4 Life!!! :D

Ae86 are cool cars, perfect for drifting, but personally I think youve been watching too much Japanese anime:)....Id stick with the 944, becuase I think youd get bored of the toyota after a couple sets of tires, try and get both...get the 944 as a cruiser and the toyota as a car to track and beat on....my two cents...-chris

I like the AE86 because it makes an awesome drift car and they're really good for autoX. That and they're just fun to drive, not to mention they never die! Everybody I've talked to about it thinks I'm off my rocker, but I still like the lil AE86s. But everytime I look at my 944 I can't help but think "Why would I ever get rid of it?" I don't know, I'll probably just contine to save for a 951, but the little corollas are tempting.

MrPants 03-29-2003 05:31 PM

what exactly makes a car good for drifting? i dont see how it would drift better than any other rwd car.

thamlin000 03-29-2003 06:35 PM

Get an 84-85 RX-7 GSL-SE. 135 hp, 2500 lbs, RWD, solid rear axle. It'll oversteer. And it isn't butt-ugly like a cheapo 1980s Corolla.
