A previous owner replaced the catalytic converter in my 1985.5 NA 944 with a straight pipe
![]() Will a 1984 cat fit, if I can't find a used 1985.5 cat? The parts catalog shows different numbers for the two years, but diagrams and photos look like they are the same dimensions, at least. I'd like to replace with used rather than new to avoid raising eyebrows when it comes to emissions testing ![]() Thanks!

as long as you fit a converter that is specifically approved by CARB to fit a 944, you can get a new one no problem.
Walker and Magnaflow both have easy to use online catalogs to look up the right part number...they're about $110 last time I checked. I put a new Walker cat on my 85 in Feb '18 and it smogged like a brand new car, I lived in Rancho Cucamonga. |

I'd really like to go with a used cat, rather than new.
So the question is whether a 1984 cat will fit in a 1985.5 944 NA ?

It may not pass emissions if it has been damaged or abused.
