Engine Components Weights?
Just about to drop my engine ('87NA)...and want to bring it down to my basement so I can work on it in relative comfort this winter.
I can either load it onto my John Deere tractor wagon and haul it down to the walk out, place it (with engine lift) on my horizontally oriented hand truck (which has four wheels and 800lb. capacity) and wheel it in to my basement workshop...or I may be able to hand truck it vertically down my basement steps - but not likely as a whole engine. But...if I could bring the engine down in pieces I may be able to schlep it down the stairs (which have a wide tread and are not steep) on the hand truck. With the above in mind...and knowing that the entire engine weighs in the vicinity of 375 lbs...does anyone know the weight of the cylinder head, and of the cam housing? And most important...the approximate weight of the block, with crank/pistons/oil pan installed/intact? (my guess is somewhere around 250lbs). I think I've read that the crank itself is around 55lbs - but I'd want to leave this installed and protected by the oil pan until I can get it safely downstairs, and I really don't want to remove the pistons from their cylinders unless I'll need to re-ring - which I truly doubt I'll need to do. At any rate...any info about the above mentioned components would be most appreciated. |
