What is the process used to refinish wheels?

I have cookie cutters that need to be refinished. I want to keep the center black when redone but I think I'd like to get the rims polished. Anyone know the process used and the approx. cost of refinishing all 4?

Thanks

Heres what I did. Get the tires removed from the rims. With the car jacked up in the rear put two rims on the back. start the car and put it in gear. ( the wheels are spining )Start with corse sand paper and get the clear coat off . Then use finer and finer sand paper to about 1000 grit. They will look good at this point. You can clean them up and repaint the centers then use a chemical ( you can get it at the parts store ) to treat the aluminum wheels for paint. Then clear coat over them. Or after sanding them you could use a aluminum polish. and make them shine. Thats what I did Here what mine look like when I got done .

It a lot of work about a days worth. But they look great. Cost about $50.00. main cost is tires must be removed, and remouted & balanced. ( because of valve stems )
