Interior help

The owner before I got my 1988 944S had basically torn off the fabric padding under the dash where the drivers feet go (under the steering wheel) and I was wondering if you can even buy that anywhere or how to install it

The whole dash is one piece. That part isn't available separate so you're looking at a complete dash swap. It's not necessarily difficult but it is time consuming. You can do it in one day if you get up early. A bit more tedious if you have airbags. Just mark every connector where it goes and you'll be fine.

Clark's Garage has a very nice write-up on dash removal. It's not complicated but very time consuming. Take pictures, bag and label everything. It's a good time to check /replace burnt out dash lights and lubricate the speedo cable.

I don't believe the dash is available as a Porsche part (NLA). I agree with drkshdw.

I wanted to suggest two cheap easy custom fixes without having to replace your current dash.

1). You can sand off all the old glue, mask everything off and spray paint it black or the color of your interior with you favorite brand of rattle can. Then it doesn't stick out so much to eye like it does now.

2). You could mask everything off and fiberglass over that piece sand it down and put some upholstery padding underneath some leatherette finish material and you have a nice new remade trim piece also if you don't want to pad it you could just paint it after you fiberglass it.
