87 944 Cruise Control

Cruise doesn't work. When I turn on the cruise, even sitting in the driveway, a component(?) located near the battery, starts clicking. There is a cable that runs back into the passenger compartment. I assume this is the cruise control unit.

Anyone have any ideas.

Thanks

This is not uncommon on the 944, from what I've heard around. Some people have had luck with resoldering the electronics that drive the cruise control; others have had to replace the system. Look through the tech articles here, and scour the 944 Webring for more information.

The cruise on my 85 944 is currently "intermittent" and unpredictable; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, and occasionally it will mysteriously engage itself without my consent. I'll post any further information once I have a chance to try some of the fixes I've seen.

I found a good homepage about 944's at Rennlist. If you follow the "recalls" link, you will see the recall issued for the cruise control. Hope it helps.
