944 Valve Shims???

I have an 83 944. After an untimely (pun intended)timing belt failure, I am in the process of replacing 4 exhaust valves. During reassembly, the head accidentally tipped over and the retainers, springs, shims, etc. fell into a pile on my workbench. I was going to use the factory set shims and figured I could get by. Now that I've mixed things up abit I'm in a load of trouble. So:

1. What is the correct installed height for the valves?
2. Any suggestions on how to get readings?

Of course all I have is the Haynes manual which gives no figures. Thanks in advance for any help!
