Glyco Bearing Issues?

Just about ready to click “send” on a 944 rebuild kit (for my 1987 NA)…when suddenly there appears controversy over on the 911 forum regarding the quality/consistency (or lack thereof) of Glyco bearings, which is making me nervous.

I’d love to hear from those on this forum who’ve used Glyco bearings (mains and rods) for their 944 NA rebuilds, and/or from those who’ve purchased Glyco bearings and have then found them to be out of spec.

Finally, for those who’ve chosen to steer clear of Glycos - what are the alternatives? Thanks!

I think the 911 issue you’re referring to was something pretty specific. As in, not all Glyco bearings for Porsche engines are bad. If the vendor selling the overhaul kit you were about to buy is a respected source, why not give them a call and ask about your concerns?

Glyco is the *only* company that even makes bearings for 944s.

If you buy a genuine Porsche bearing it is still made by glyco, just remeasured and grouped by size tolerances.

Glyco brand are all assumed to be in tolerance and shipped unmarked/unmeasured.

They're fine bearings but sometimes you need more than 1 set to not have any scratches or dings from packaging/ shipping.

I used Glyco bearings when i rebuilt my race engine last year , no apparent issues ...
I purchased all my seals, gaskets and bearings from Lindsey Racing , i guess they wouldn't be selling those parts if there were known issues as they pretty much specialize in 944's !

I rebuilt my '86 951 engine back in 2005 @ 220K-miles. Used Glyco bearings and it's humming along!

Used them in my 968, same bearings as 944/951. No problems.

Mine came shrink wrapped to card stock, in a box, and not able to ding one another.
