Alarm switch - which position is ON?

In a functioning 944 alarm, which key position is ON and OFF?

Horizontal = armed

Vertical = unarmed

failure mode for alarm?

That's interesting, thanks. My alarm key switch is Horizontal and was like that since I purchased the car. I suppose my alarm isn't functioning since I don't hear a siren and can drive the car.

The previous owner rewired the fuel pump in an unconventional way, so maybe he didn't realize that the alarm was somehow cutting power to the pump?

What's the failure mode for the alarm and do people bother to restore this 30+ year-old factory feature?

Most people bypass the alarm because of the no-start issue the car has when the alarm interferes. Porsche does not support the alarm anymore but I don't see any harm in restoring it if yours is mostly intact and functioning correctly (make a write up?)...I have wondered the same about the cruise control...How much trouble would it be to get it working again and is it worth the trouble??? Lol!

cruise control

I was just messing with my cruise control last week. The button will enable the car to accelerate but it won't maintain speed. I'm guessing the servo is OK but the "Brain" is bad?
