how to tell engine type?

hello, everyone.
I'm about to order timing belt kits for by 924s and there are different kits for engine "design" 4407, 4408 with either "original style water pump" or "new".
I guess my water pump is original - it doesn't have plate that separates timing belt running in opposite direction and there is no balancer belt tensioner.
I've no user manual.
Let me know how to tell what kind of engine type (design) my car has and where to find an engine number. My car is1987 924s.
Thanks.

Your car has engine M44/07 or 08 basically the same engine as a 944 from 1985-1987. You can fit the updated water pump.

There's a search feature on the forums that will prove helpful to you and a page of how-to's https://www.pelicanparts.com/944/944tech_articles.htm that will help you in certain areas.
