Strange moaning noise

I own a 944 s2 -90 cabriolet. Once the motor has reached a running temperature (approx after a a couple of minutes) there comes a moaning, squeaking noise from the front right part of the engine room. It is only there between approx. 2000 and 3000 rpm. It goes away immediatly below 2000 rpm and usually above 3000 rpm. If it is there and I push the clutch and let go of the accelerator, hence making the noise disapear, and then accelerate again it sometimes has disapeared even between 2000 and 3000 rpm. I had a porsche mechanic have a look and listen to it and he suggested it could be the power steering.
I would be very grateful for any help.

Can't really say. But I would suggest to check the usual suspects; timing belt, balance shaft belt, sprockets, and pulleys. They're the most trouble producing in the engine, and it sounds like it's coming from that area.

Probably the Power steering pump. It sits up there, and when low on fluid they moan, also when the belt is loose they squeak. however you should have it checked cause if it is low it may be leaking on sometihng, and that something could be expensive.

The timing belt and the balnce shaft belt were changed at 100000 km and it has now run 120000 km so they should be alright. I think IŽll check the power steering, but what belt do you (Pilot) mean?

My belts were replaced 10,000 miles ago but I'm still going to have them re-adjusted tomorrow because I can hear something is not right there.

Mechanics aren't perfect. Just something to always consider.

By the way, do you feel shaking associated with the noise? And either way, how long has this been going on for?
