It's going to go...
I'm not going to keep my car! I've decided to sell it...
For those of you who don't know about it, it's got original paint in mostly good shape, but a little fading around the roof, the front spoiler is bent, and also a cosmetically damaged front left fender. The car needs a tranny now, but aside from that, mechanically it's really tight, has many mods to the suspension, engine, and the brakes. I can easily state that it'll out do a stock 944 NA in every department. How much should I ask for it? Going rate seems to be around 3-5k, but I have so much in this car, including a 10 cd changer, nice speakers, lighting upgrades, so on, and so forth. To the best of my knowledge, besides a moist oil pan seal (and vicinity) and seperation starting in the hatch from the frame, (and ofcourse the cosmetics, as well as the transaxle) the car is mechanically perfect, has been maintained perfectly since new, and I'm only the 4th owner. Than again, I can see somebody not wanting to pay much for this car, it's an 84 with problems afterall. Again though, bushings, completely new front susp, timing belt, sport clutch, jacobs ignition, power sport seats, mild street cam, above spec compression, H4 headlights... What do you think a car like this is worth as is? Should I sell it after fixing it? (I want to do the latter, at least have the car in an auto-x before I sell it.) IMOP, I would call the car rough and thus be looking at about $2,500 for it. Yes, the maintenance is up to par but let's be honest, the car has had a rough life. Remove the stereo equip and call it a day. The other big factor for me is the age of the car.
Good luck... |

So will you be departing the 944 community? Any plans for future water cooled Porsches?

I think I'll keep in touch with the 944 people... Afterall, I like these cars a lot, and believe they're over engineered, and overbuilt, and save for some stupid money saving mistakes, cars are quite solid, and have German Logic all over them!
I definately have future plans, I will own a 968 that would have a turbocharged engine, or a 951, with a modified engine. Ofcourse I will take care of handling, and brakes first, and if past is any indication, achieving solid results are not too far of a reach. However to get it right, with no support from the parents, this'll likely wait a couple of years, until I graduate from collage. I might even keep this car, since I definately won't sell it for anywhere near $2500, that's about the amount I've spent on susp. mods alone, in the past year or so. Since you're an obvious 944 enthusiast, you may want to keep your car and sell it for parts. It seems like you're in no hurry to get rid of it, and you would probably enjoy taking it all apart in the garage or something. I'm sure you could make a lot more money selling individual parts than the car itself is worth. Just selling your sound system, wheels, tires, and engine if you can manage will probably already make you a "profit." You should sell all your other parts like windshield, sunroof, bumpers, interior/exterior trim and the like on eBay over the next year or whatever. You could probably easily get 5-10K back on the project.

I did think about this, my parent's don't quite support the idea!
I'll advertise the car, after the tranny for $4500 nego. and if nobody comes up for a while, than I'm not sure what I'll do with it! Quite a good idea to part it, and I have nothing against it, maybe if I can find a place to do it at... Thank you for this idea, Ahmet ------------------ It's all the driver... |
