Question "Slim Fans" replace factory auxiliary fan??

HI, anybody replaced the auxiliary fans with this kind of "slim fans"?? Does it provide better air flow ??

I need to replace the motor of original auxiliary fan (30 years ago -- mine is 944 S2 1989). It seems those fans are cheaper and slim --> I replaced the radiator with full aluminum radiator which is little bit bigger size than the original that I may need thinner fans because lower radiator hose was scratched by the fan blades. (I fixed by cutting out certain centimeter of edge of blades)

Thanks for share the experiences.

Kay

Modern fans are much improved, especially on current draw, but just be aware that you will get reduced effectiveness without the factory fan ducting.

If your car has AC there is no auxiliary fan - both are required for engine cooling, always.

Slim fans will NOT work as well as the stock units. They may be old but the large paddle is still the best blade shape for moving air.

Slim fans might work OK in mild temperature ranges and easy driving, but not with AC on a hot day.

Hi, thanks for all replies. Do you know the CFM of stock fans?

rather than downgrading from the stock fans to an aftermarket "slim fan", just rebuild your existing ones for under $5 each.

this thread says 928 but the motor is the same on the 944. uses a common #608 bearing and some rivets.

Thanks for opinion. I am not typically "downgrading" the fans to slim fans. I replaced the stock radiator with a bigger (thicker) full aluminum radiator so I need to have a "thinner" fans. There are some slim fans which provides higher CFM than stock (as they claim) (more expensive, not those under $100 on eBay)

Thanks v2rocket. I go take a look on modification.

I've messed around with a lot of fans on the 944. Slim ones, stock ones, other car OEM fans.

If you can get them in HK look for older Volvo fans...
I had this one on my 944 for about 7 years.
