one turn signal not working

front drivers turn signal not working. with a new bulb and shaking it around or shoving a screwdriver in the prongs on the back it will illuminate. I am guessing the ground connection is bad on one side only, so i would like to remove the assembly and work on it. Do i have to remove the black rubber bumper insert, to reveal the upper and lower mounting holes that are in the assembly, or should I go in from underneath and try to handle all the work from below without taking the assembly out.... anyone done this before.

Sorry, I don't have a lot of free time, and not a lot of free time to do the work either.

Working 50 hour weeks, and at Church usually 10 hours every weekend.....

this same light works when parking lights are on, but doesn't blink.... should I still attack the connection at the light fixture, or does this sound like a steering wheel assembly issue. Right turn signal works, and rears work, on hazzard only the front passenger and rears work, not the front driver.

It could be any of those but first remove the front lens, remove the bulb and look carefully at the socket to see if it might be cracked or corroded. If it looks OK or corroded, try spraying the socket with some WD40 and put the bulb in and wiggle it to see if it will wdrk. If it starts to work then put some grease on the bulb contacts to protect it from corrosion. If not, you could also look underneath to see if the wiring looks ok or if it might have been damaged. I can't remember if this light also has a separate fuse, so check those, too.

Also the bulb can go in two ways, make sure it is in the correct orientation. One contact is a little deeper than the other and the bulb has a little bump on each side, one further down than the other, make sure they align properly to the socket grooves and that it turns and clicks in.

It also looks like the light assembly is held by one screw once the lens is removed. Once the screw is remove the assembly should slide to the side and come free without removing the bumper cover. However the bolt will drop free and will need to be retrieved to reinstall.

whats throwing me is that the bulb illuminates fine when parking lights are selected. I am getting the fast blink light on the dash display indicating a "dirty connection" when turning selecting left. could it be dirty contacts in the wheel stock....

I had a similar problem: the ground lug was broken off the bulb holder.

The bulb base and socket is a common ground for both filaments. There is also a separate fuse for each indicator light F/R and L/R. Also does it work with the hazards on? Is there a difference when the parking lights are on vs off? Before suspecting the column switch I would check the socket with a volt meter.

with hazard on, it doesn't work at all, with parking lights on it illuminates and stays on. The drivers side works on both settings.

I am reading rears are linked, and so I may buy 3 more bulbs and clean and lube all 4 corners. Also will check the separate fuses, although I am thinking that since it works in parking light setting, my problem is a loose wire behind the compartment.

The parking light and the indicator light are separate fuses.

SOLVED! First off I feel like a giant horses ass. It was the fuse. The separate fuse for the front left signal.

I have never solved an automotive problem from a fuse being blown, but there is always a first.

Sorry to waste everyones time including mine. Maybe someone will learn from my mistake.

The only problem with experience is what it costs to get it. You fixed the problem: good on you!

just finished patting myself on the back and problem is back. new fuse blew after working a couple times. looks like I may be hunting a ground fault. I don't think its at the front fixture as i took off that connection, cleaned it and put it back snugly. Should I look in that front area behind the headlight at those wires for a issue, or could it be other parts of the system?

rear bulbs were cooked. I removed, cleaned out with wire brush and lubed up with di-electric before putting back new bulbs.

changed license plate bulbs and high mount bulb. Now they all work except engine compartment, and the cabin courtesy light comes on when it feels like it about 50% of the time the door opens.
