Interior carpet color - black?

I have a 1984 944 in Zermatt Silver. From what I understand the interiors came in black and brown. My car has black seats and a black dashboard - but the carpeting is more of a dark blue. I had assumed that it used to be black but faded due to sun exposure over the years. But, when I removed the front seat the carpet underneath that would not have had any sun exposure is also the same dark blue and not black. So, I'm a bit confused about what the color was originally.
