Low Oil Pressure - Fan Not Coming On - Oil Light Flickering

I'm just finishing my 84 944 restoration and have the engine running now. I have never owned a running 944 before so could do with finding out a few things like at which point temp mark on the gauge the fan should come on.

I ran it for the first time today and cut it off when it was almost at the thick yellow warning line on the gauge and the fan wasn't running yet. The oil pressure light started to flicker too.

I stupidly didn't check the oil pressure on the gauge from cold, but when at the above heat, the oil pressure was at 1 bar at idle.

I'm wondering if the fan switch is broken causing the oil to thin too much and the oil pressure to drop but any thoughts, ideas of where to check and dial temp info from good running cars etc would be really helpful.

Hello there, first thing I,ll do is check all your main grounds then next will be your fan relay & then your thermo fan switch.Fans should come on a little pass the 3/4 mark at idle.Did you do a motor job on it?Oil pressure should be over 1 bar at idle ...depending what kind of oil your using.Oil ligth flikering is not a good sign.Could be the pick-up pump. Not a 83 944 but yours gauges should be giving you the same reading after 10 -15 minutes at idle.Last but not least ,this will be your best friend from now on Clarksgarage.com Good luck & let us know how your doing.
