Door/window channel HELP!
I'm rebuilding and replacing my door mechanisms after the paint shop damaged several parts trying to put it back together. A problem that has caused me more headaches is because the rear window channel and brace doesn't seem to be removeable. I've looked for rivets, screws, bolts to no avail and it's making putting the door mechanisms impossible to reinstall. Does anyone have an answer to this? This is the channel in question, behind the inner do opening cable. Next Page..Sorry for the picture not being oriented correctly. The pic should be rotated right 90 degrees.

Are you referring to the rear hatch? If so, is it a question of lining up (or not lining up) the hatch pins with the receivers? If that's the case, you can make adjustments by following these instructions.

You don't say what car this is for, and your garage only says "NA" and '86 951.
The early cars have the channels welded in place. You have some 8mm bolts at the top and bottom of the channel on later cars that you remove to take them out. The top one is behind the rubber window weatherstripping. The bottom one should be inside of the door, as I remember... |
Sorry for being obscure. This Is my '86 951 and there's no channel bolts that I can see. Is it possible that the channel is bolted to a tab on the bottom and hidden behind the trim on the top? I'll put my hands and fingers in there again tomorrow, but I pretty much scoured the bottom for an attachment.

I was referring to the driver's door on my '86 951.

Yes, it's behind the rubber on the top. You will not see it until you remove that rubber.
Bottom should be more visible. |
Around minute 4, the guy in this video says there is a 7mm on the bottom and a 8mm at the top.

This helpful video showsthe latch release mechanism insitu and on the bench and how areas can wear over time from use and abuse. I may need to replace my passenger side release if the new trigger and new linkage and lube job don’t do the trick. |
Atta boy, Chris. You are the man. Thanks so much for finding that. Now I can put this mess back together. Yeeeha!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat6.gif And thanks to everyone for their input and help.
