adhesive and wheels

I have phone dials on my car. I also have old adhesive on them from the old wheel weights that are not there anymore. Is there a commercial product out there that will easily cut through the adhesive without damaging the wheels?

I only started using this recently...3M Tar, Grease and Adhesive Remover...but never tried removing adhesive on wheels...perhaps this will work? It is a transparent liquid based remover.....almost has the consistency of liquid silicon:

We use a product called Goo Gone to remove stickers at work. Its available at Home Depot. It shouldn't harm the metal, but it will ruin plastic parts. We also use mineral spirits, its a milder choice and should not cause any problems.

be careful when using solvents like goo gone, because remember that the wheel surface isn't metal, it's clear coat.

Goo Gone will work. ONLY!! have a hose running to rinse immediately.

I refurbish alot of industrial (painted) equipment and I use a spray bottle with water and never affected the paint surface.

Also, 3M genreal adheasive remover works great (I refinish rims for customers all the time, and have used this product in this very application). Put it on, let it sit for a minute (or a few minutes depending on how bad the goo is) and wipe off. I use it all over the place and have never had it harm any finish I have ever put it on (paint, clear coat, annodizing, etc...)

I've also used goo gone to remove stubborn bugs, etc... and never damaged painted surfaces BUT I would keep some fresh water near by as it is a bit more aggressive than the 3M.

both are available at most auto parts stores.

Hope this helps,
