I really depends on the shape of the damper.

I heard that it was around the 60K mark. I am sure the one in my car had been replaced at some point, but I have no idea when - didn't get any maintenance records with the car. When I pulled the engine it had several large cracks forming around the outside edge, I decided to go with the clutch/pressure plate setup. If you pull the starter you can get a really good look at the damper to see how many cracks it has.

Perhaps someone else will chime in, just speaking from my experience.

It is an as-required replacement. As with all rubber and plastic, there is no mileage at which it will fail, because it depends on heat and age and oxidation as much as anything.

To give you some idea, mine went at 125k miles and it was about 22 years old. I think age has as much to do as miles as the rubber hardens and gets brittle with age regardless of miles.

Hello Ya'All,
I'm interested in doing this manual clutch swap on my automatic 1984 944. Does anybody have a complete list of parts including bolts for the flex plate?
I'd be very interested in having a detailed list of parts and the procedures.
If this is already in a thread, could someone send me a link?
Thank you very much,
Frank

I will be tackling this in the near future. got an 87 924S auto and from the clanking noise suspecting this. when I pull the engine I'll look at replacing with a used clutch kit. all depends on what I find.

It so happens that I have a used clutch kit from my 84 (manual rubber clutch) that still has meat and in good shape. It's available for free to anyone who wants it; I only ask to cover the shipping costs.
