Balance shaft seal install by hand
Should I be concerned that I was able to install both BS seals by hand on the bench ? I have heard of using a vice etc but mine went in rather easy after slight coat of grease. Yes I installed the correct left and right seals. Camshaft seal was easy as well.

If it's any help, my seals went in with finger pressure also. The seals I used were the brown ones with the ridges around the outside. I've also done seals that were just smooth black ones that didn't press in as easily. Guess its just a manufacturers tolerance thing.

One other suggestion. If you lube the seal to install it, try using a non petroleum based lube. Just a touch. A water based lube will dry and the seal will stick and not move or spin like it might with a grease that stays there.
When I had to draw new bearings and carriers into my torque tube an old timer suggested this. It works. Believe it or not, one of the bearing manufacturers specs said to use KY jelly just for that reason. Its water based and dries. Who wudda thunk!!!! LOL |

Ok thanks , good to hear. Mine were the orange Victor Reinz seals with ridges like you state and ones removed were black National and something else. After I installed using brake grease per Clark’s , I thought I maybe should have used something that would dry out so that the seals would not spin. KY , I had not heard that one

That reminds me. I really should get rid of the leftover tube of KY.
Was wondering why I got a strange look when I opened my tool drawer! LOL |
