I have a pair of the affected six ton stands, and the height-setting ratchet mechanism has never inspired much faith. John

I invested in a couple pairs of these units (Schwaben) years ago which are lightweight and very strong.

I have a lift (E-Z Car Lift and love it) which I use almost exclusively these days, but back when it was always jack stands (including with an engine drop on a badly cracked garage floor) I never did completely trust those ratcheting style jacks - so yeah, those Schwaben's look like a go-to.

Thing is...no matter what I use (even with the lift), I always place a "safety spacer" (a stand cobbled from two 4x4's with 3/4" ply end caps), at a location under the car, depending on where I happen to be working, which, in the event of lift/support failure, would cause the car to tip in a direction favoring my escape.

Call me paranoid...but my wife is a nurse practitioner and she's got a number of horror stories of folks being squashed under their cars from a variety of lift-failures, a fate I really don't want to embrace!

If anyones shopping for new ones, another good brand is Esco. The flat tops work well with some of the 944 lift points, and these have a nice wide base for stability

Porsche Crest Easy recall

The clerk just looked at them and took the item number off of it. Didn't have any new ones, which I wouldn't have taken anyway, or a gift card. Very painless. I never did trust them and only kept them for times I wanted to lift something but didn't need to climb under.

My wife got me a couple of gifts for my birthday. First, she got me a brand new life insurance policy! Then, she got me a pair of Harbor Freight jackstands!!!
