Dry Sump 944?
Anybody know if this is do-able?
Seems like it would save lots of power for the modified 951, and the 968 turbos, even for the stock/near stock cars that need some hp, specially at the top end, and have the dough! This would eliminate oil starvation, save hp, and enable for the car to use much more oil, via a remote tank, as well as provide a little bit of clearance for the steering rack? So anybody know about this? Real ride? Pilot? Just curious, even if this is big bucks, I'd like to find out something if possible, Thanks, Ahmet ------------------ It's all the driver... |

I wish you had posted this two days ago when I wasat the shop. I'll be there again next Friday , I'll ask them then.
I may need reminding though. ------------------ The shortest distance between two points is in my car. |

Any thing is doable if you have the bucks!
All of the 911's are dry sump, I think the Boxters are too. It would be a chore, and you would be a pioneer in the field. I don't think it's been done, or at least I've never seen it done. It makes sense to try it though, there are definitly advantages to a dry sump system. If you could do it, and then market a kit, who knows, it could be your first million. |

Here's your reminder Pilot.
I think I've discovered that it's do-able, but don't know if there's a kit, an aftermarket manufacturer, or does it have to be custom made... Just curious... Ahmet ------------------ It's all the driver... |

Yes Accsump is very favorable among 944 racers. Well the two that I know both use them. They use 3 extra quarts of oil.

Accusump isn't exactly dry though...
I'm asking about a system that won't let oil splash all over the crank... Ahmet ------------------ It's all the driver... |

Oh yes,
I believe Dry Sumped 944 based engines is quite common. There should be a few out here in the West Coast. My friend Greg Brown has 2 944GTR's in his shop which I'm pretty sure are Dry Sumped. I couldn't imagine these 720hp monsters not being Dry Sumped. Your reasons for Dry Sumped motors is very accurate, however, in the case of the oil cavitation, one shouldn't need to go to such measures. The problem lies in two main areas: the oil pickup point in the pan was problematic but was resolved in the later cars. The later cars also had larger oil galleys which may have been a panacea for the same problem. If you are interested in Dry Sumping your 944 motor, try visiting the John Milledge or Raetech (David Finch) websites. I don't have the URL at the moment but try a search. Both these guys are considered the 944 Gurus in this country. good luck. David www.RealRide.com |

If you look on Milledge's website, he shows a few Dry Sumped 944 motors.
