HELP: Speed Sensor?
It's me again... I have an 1987 944 Turbo that has quite a few engine mods: Autothority mass-airflow sensor and DME chip, bored throttle body, honed intake, MSD ignition, the larger K-27 turbo and a larger intercooler. It works great at full throttle or when very lightly pressing on the gas. At mid throttle, the car hesitates and gets to the point of flat out stuttering at around 3-4k rpm. I took my car in the shop and got raped for the new low price of $300. They replaced the throttle position switch and the plugs in the car, but the car works no better than before. The only "quick fix" so far has been to disconnect the throttle position switch completely, but it still doesn't work right (and this should not be the solution).
They mentioned that the car is equipped with a "speed sensor" on the flywheel that could be affecting performance. They claimed that it wasn't putting out the spec of 2 Volts (mine puts out .5 - 1) They also said that this could be fixed by adjusting the mounting bracket... could this be causing my problem?!? Any help would be greatly appreciated! |
I just had a similar problem. The car would hesitate in general, and whenever I pushed the clutch in and took my foot off the gas, the RPMs would drop way down to about 500 before it would catch itself and come back up. It idled pretty rough at times, too. There was also a whining noise coming from the fuel pump, so I originally thought it was something wrong with the fuel pump. But it turned out to be that both the pressure regulator and damper needed to be replaced, and not the fuel pump. I don't know if this might be your problem, but it's something to consider.
