Reverse Light Switch
I am going to replace the failed reverse light switch on the transaxle.
I did find the torque value to be 30 lb-ft. Neither the PET or FSM show a gasket for this switch. Does anyone know if a gasket (aluminum, copper, or fiber) is suppose to be used on installation? Thanks, |
I replaced mine a few weeks ago. It's a little tricky to get a wrench on it, but not so bad. The old one is in my hand. No gasket that I found on the old one or included with the new one.

Nice catch on the torque units! Good luck getting any kind of torque wrench on that w/o removing the transaxle. Personally, I just tightened until it felt snug. I was surprised how it came out relatively easily, so must not be installed super tight to begin with.

Well, 42 Nm does in fact convert to 30.9 lb-ft (see below). I will use 22 lb-ft (makes more sense). Hmmm, wonder if there is an o-ring.

Interesting, especially when both NM and Ft/Lb values are the same. That looks to be a type-O.

I remember being schooled as a teenager by older guys to be cognizant of torquing hardware by feel. Of course torque wrenches and specs have their place, but blind reliance on them can create other issues.

For the 924S (and early 944's) with two transaxle mounts, it is easier to just support the transaxle and remove the right side mount. Makes it MUCH easier to access the reverse switch and get tools in there. I also added a size A015 o-ring upon installation and torqued to 22 lb-FT.
...and then I noticed I will need to replace both inner CV axle boots...*sigh* |
